If they go House of M for multiverse I can see them explaining Wanda was able to merge the branch timeline where her kids were born that we hear them calling from in the post credit seen. In this timeline mutants have been there the whole time and it explain how they can get retconned into continuity with the MCU. Hopefully they can show previous mcu scenes with mutants glitching into them. This could alert Kang of something causing a change where he no longer is ruling and come to attack.

To be honest, while it is hard to get past Evan Peters not portraying his iteration of Pietro Maximoff, I'm glad Marvel didnt go down that route - it would've been a huge rabbit hole. Personally, I would've been fine if it was just Quicksilver crossing over from the Fox X-men franchise, but surely most would have expected other characters such as MacAvoy's Prof. X and Fassbender's Magneto.
